Project | The Duisburg-Xanten Dike Association is responsible, among other things, for the safety of the left bank dikes on the Rhine and flood safety in general in the currently defined association area. The association area covers the area on the left bank of the Rhine between Rhine river km 786.25 (Duisburg-Baerl) and 823.2 (Xanten-Beek) On 17 January 2023, an erosion funnel was discovered in the area of the water-side foot of the Rhine dyke in Wesel-Büderich. Due to damage to the wastewater pressure pipe (ADL) located there, soil in the pipe was transported away. The damaged section of pipe was replaced and the excavation pit required for this was then backfilled. The work was completed on 20.01.2023. Due to the hazardous situation, the measures were carried out immediately and with the highest priority as an ad hoc safety measure. The operator of the ADL, Stadtwerke Wesel (SWW), prepared a detailed damage description/documentation in consultation with the DVDX, and M&P Water GmbH, in the person of Dr Haselsteiner, who is an expert in geotechnics in accordance with the EASV, was commissioned to assess the damage repair with regard to the stability of the dyke and flood safety and to carry out a risk assessment in this context. |
